BREEDING & MANAGEMENT
Breeding & Management: Welcome
Kinko Dormers put animals on sale of high quality and some of the best in the stud industry. Our dormers sell at reasonable prices. They are not over fed, will be fertile and fit for work. Our animals must meet the needs of our clients. Ewes are sold in there forth year and rams at 11-14mnths we only retain +-10 rams for own use and sell them on the next auction, this is done to ensure the best for our clients.
We ensure the best quality by selecting strictly for, economical important trades, from a large population. These animals must adapt to our extreme climate, they must be able to produce the best slaughter lams in the industry for our self and our clients.
In order to achieve this we make use of the best advice in the industry. Genetic improvement is shifting the average. View curve ball below.

According to the breeders guide Lambplan, MGS and Kidplan.
Three key factors influence the rate of genetic improvement or response to selection.
1. Heritability of the trade
2. The generation interval
3. The selection differential
We cannot change the heritability of a trait but we must understand its role in selection decisions.
Kinko Dormers shorten the generation interval by using a very young ewe flock, 10 months to 4 years. Rams 7- 14 months .We rotate our rams very fast and only use the best 20% progeny tested rams again. We lamb 2 groups in an 8 month system, resulting that half of the ewes lamb and breed every 4 months enabling us to use an 80% new team of rams every 4 months. High weaning percentages result in a greater number of animals to select from. All this to shift the bell as well!
Our key driving factor is selection differential and selection accuracy. We get this from accurate estimated breeding values and select animals with the best genes for growth, fertility and carcass trades. With ebv’s our chances for success is much higher. At Kinko we also use a team of 10-12 rams to improve our accuracy rather than 1 or 2 rams. We rather look at a ram portfolio to increase our flock averages.
